Sri Lanka is set to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) at a ceremony that will take place pertaining to the related treaty alongside the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers green-lit the signing of the treaty yesterday (September 11) following the proposal tabled by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry.
In 2021, the Cabinet gave the go-ahead to execute the necessary steps concerning the entry to the treaty upon a proposal which was presented by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs G.L. Peiris in an effort to make Sri Lanka a part of the accord.
The 78th session of the UNGA is all set to be held from September 19-23 and on September 26.
