Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has initiated a paddy harvesting project recently for the low income farmer community in order to increase their earnings by reducing the cost of harvestings. Morawewa Air Force Station has undertaken the paddy harvesting drive under the supervision of Commanding Officer, Group Captain Lalith Sugathadasa.
The commencement of the initial stage will benefit 31 selected farmer families who were chosen under the recommendation of the Morawewa Divisional Secretariat and regional Paddy Farming Societies.
SLAF sources further said it is intended to harvest 93 acres where three acres of each family would be harvested free of charge during the initial phase. The second and third phases will be conducted in Kanugahawewa and Ampara areas respectively.
