The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members who have been warned of disciplinary action are ignoring the warning letters and have continued to pledge support with President Ranil Wickramsinghe for the upcoming Presidential election.
The latest pledge of support to President Wickramasinghe was Kalutara District MP and the National Convenor of SLPP, Rohitha Abeygunawardana. He announced his support at an event held this morning (August 4, 2024), stating that there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies in politics.
SLPP Member of Parliament (MP)Akila Ellawala told Timesonline,"There are only two politicians in parliament who can face a crisis like this,Mr Ranil Wickramesinghe and Mr Mahinda Rajapakhsa. As Mr Mahinda Rajapakhsa cannot contest again, we pledge our support to Mr.Wickramesinghe."
"We received warning letters from SLPP, but we are not going to mislead or betray our party. Despite the warning letters, there may be more than a hundred MP's joining President Ranil Wickramesinghe," said Mr Ellawala.
