The SLPP is to call a Politburo meeting to discuss the action to be taken against the State Minister of Prison Management & Prisoners’ Rehabilitation, Lohan Ratwatte regarding the incidents that occurred at Welikada and Anuradhapura prisons.
The General Secretary of the SLPP, Sagara Kariyawasam told TimesOnline that they are awaiting the arrival of their party leader Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the action to be taken against the state minister at a Politburo meeting.
The state minister had earlier entered the Anuradhapura prisons and threatened to kill prisoners as well as forcibly entered Welikada prison to show the gallows to a group of friends.
Following the public outcry against his actions the minister tendered his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (15) accepting the responsibility over both incidents.
General Secretary Kariyawasam said that he alone cannot decide on actions to be taken against the state minister, therefore was awaiting the arrival of the party leader to call a Politburo meeting and collectively decide on taking a suitable action against the state minister.
