A Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus plying from Mullaitivu to Jaffna was pelted with stones this morning. The attack resulted in damage to the windscreen of the bus and the driver sustaining minor injuries.
The driver has told police that the bus was traveling on the A-30 road when two persons who came on a motorbike pelted it with stones at Selvapuram in Mullativu before making their escape.
The bus reached its destination safely under the protection of the Mullaitivu Police.
SLTB buses were working as usual in the Northern Province today while private buses stayed off the roads in support of the 'Hartal' called demanding the withdrawal of the proposed Anti-Terrorism Bill.
Police suspect that the SLTB bus had come under attack because they had not heeded the call to observe the hartal. Investigations are ongoing to identify the assailants.
