The Special Task Force arrested an accomplice of an underworld gangster currently overseas for his involvement in helping through a failed - assassination attempt, under instructions of his boss abroad.
The STF conducted a raid on the Sugatha Elderly Home in front of Tuduwa Temple in the Ahungalla, where they arrested a 27 year old resident of Ahungalla, suspected of aiding an attempted murder on October 12.
The suspect had supported an attempted murder of “Thatta Kumara” on the Colombo-Galle road in front of the Ahungalla RIU Hotel, under the instructions of “Loku Peti”, who lives abroad, where the suspect had seen through the entire murder attempt.
The suspect had changed the number plates of the vehicles, which provided transport for the assassins, and had obtained the T-56 rifle used for the shooting by communicating with Loku Peti before the murder, pointing out “Thatta Kumara” to the assassins.
The suspect who had supported the assassins to escape even after the assassination failed and had handed over the rifle and the car to another party, under the guidance of Loku Peti, was handed over to the Ahungalla Police after his arrest, for further investigation.
The raid was conducted on information received by the officers of Special Task Force Special Operation 1, as per the orders and instructions of the Special Task Force Commander, Inspector Y.S. Suraweera by a group of officials.
The STF were successful in arresting a disciple of “Mahawatta Chamara”, a 29 year old resident of Colombo 14, as well in a raid in front of the Bank of Ceylon near the Ingurukade junction on October 26.
The suspect was in possession of 142g of Hashish drug and is believed to be controlling the drug network of the Underworld gangster “Mahawatta Chamara”, who is currently in prison.
