The Police Special Task Force (STF) has busted a counterfeit currency note racket and taken three suspects into custody with 602 fake Rs 500 currency notes.
The suspects were arrested yesterday from Angampitiya, Seeduwa during a raid conducted by the Intelligence Division of the STF. Along with the fake currency notes, the STF also took into custody a laptop and printer used to print the fake notes, three mobile phones and a motorbike used by the suspects.
The suspects, aged 21, 43 and 45 years, are residents of Gampaha, Veyangoda and Wellampitiya. They have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigations.
The racket was busted based on a tip-off given to the STF Intelligence Division regarding an organized fake currency racket. STF officers had earlier arrested two suspects on a motorbike along with 60 Rs 500 fake currency notes in the Liyanagemulla area in Seeduwa. Further interrogation of the two suspects arrested in this incident led the STF to the location from which the fake currency notes were being printed.
