Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa called on the public to vote in favour of the SJB at the Local elections and thereby a give warning to the government which has failed to fulfill  its promises.

Addressing the party May Day rally at the Thalawakele Palygrounds, Mr Premadasa said it is now clear that the government has failed to keep to its pre-election promises and it was time to give a signal to the government about their failure.

“Pachakara anduwata honda padamak Ugannmu” (Teach a good lesson to government which has given false promises).

He said, by voting for the SJB at the Local elections,  the signal to Anura Kumara Dissanayake and his party could be given.

He recalled that this was the first Local government election the SJB was contesting.

Mr Premadasa pointed out that contrary to claims made during the pre-election period, the fertilizer prices have increased and the concessions have  been taken away while there has been no solution to the human –elephant conflict and no compensation being paid.

“The government promised to reduce electricity prices, but now it seems contrary to the claims, the electricity tariff is to be increased after giving an assurance to the IMF. This will be done  after the elections,” he said.

“This is the party which said electricity tariff will be reduced by 33 per cent,” he said.

“This is the opportunity to give a warning at the upcoming local elections,” he added.

He said Anura Kumara Dissanayake who promised that 35,000 unemployed graduates would be given employment, but it has turned be another failure.
