Leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Sajith Premadasa unanimously re-elected to post called for early elections inorder to test the popularity of its party against others.
Mr Premadasa addressing the party convention held at the Campbell park declared that his party was the only party which could offer solutions to the current problems in the country and is the only party which has a team free of corruption.
He said there were no use of conspiracies, but it was best to test the popularity of the party among the public by holding elections and his party was ready to face the election.
The SJB leader said that the public was already burden with taxes and his party was ready to implement objective and time-target projects similar to that of the garment factory project launched by former President late Ranasinghe Premadasa.
The annual convention was addressed by several other senior members including General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Chairman of the party Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka who were re-elected to their positions.
Dr. Harsha de Silva was appointed as the Treasurer of the party while Mr Tissa Attanayake was re-appointed as the National Organiser.
An estimated 15,000 party supporters some of them from the outstations like Vavuniya, Ampara, Kurunegala, Matara, Kandy and Gampola attended the event.
Due to the heavy rains during the past few days the grounds was in a soggy condition forcing some of the crowds to witness the event from outside the grounds.
