Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today presented his educational qualifications to Parliament. The opposition leader did so in response to a request made by Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayathissa in Parliament yesterday.
Presenting his educational certificates, Mr Premadasa said he had his primary education at St. Bridget's Convent before moving to St. Thomas Preparatory School and then Royal College, Colombo.
Mr Premadasa pointed out that he did not sit for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination as he left for studies in the UK. He said he sat for the UK Ordinary Level Examination and presented his O/Level certificate, refuting reports that he had failed his O/Level exam.
The opposition leader also presented his transcript from his UK Advanced Level certificate.
Mr Premadasa further showed his degree certificate from the London School of Economics. He added that he enrolled for a Master's Degree in Public Management at the University of Maryland in the US and studied for two years but had to return to the country in 1993 following the assassination of his father.
The opposition leader said he also enrolled for a Master's Degree in Environmental Science at the Open University of Sri Lanka in 2021/22. "I studied for the degree on a part-time basis as I also had to juggle my duties as opposition leader," he said, adding that he even attended a few lectures conducted by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who was then a senior lecturer at the university. Mr Premadasa said he found it extremely difficult to continue with his Master's degree from 2022 given the political situation in the country.
