Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa will accept the Prime Minister's position only if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Lakshman Kiriella said today.
Mr Kiriella told a news conference that further discussions on the issue was currently underway.
His remarks came as Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena is set to have consultations with party leaders today evening.
Initially the meeting where the party leaders were due to meet the Speaker in Parliament for today was called off on grounds that the MPs lack security, but thereafter the Speaker's office said that the meeting will be held via Zoom.
Meanwhile the countrywide curfew extended until tomorrow 7.00 a.m. continues with the armed forces enforcing the curfew.
