The Government has allocated Rs. 87 billion out of the total requirement of Rs. 93 billion to pay monthly salaries of public sector employees tomorrow (Wednesday) for the month of January 2023 on the basis of firstly non-executive grade officers and secondly executive grades as there was a shortage of Rs. 6 billion.
Executive grade officers will receive their salaries the day after tomorrow (Thursday) if the Treasury is unable to raise Rs 6 billion from state banks today.
State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has issued a special announcement regarding the salary payments of public sector employees for the month of January.
Accordingly, the monthly salaries of non-executive public sector employees will be paid on January 25 (tomorrow).
The expected revenue for the month of January 2023 is Rs. 145 billion as the Sri Lanka Customs and Excise Department’s monthly revenue is expected to come down by Rs. 10 billion.
The estimated expenditure for the month of January 2023 was around Rs. 625 billion, the state Finance Minister said adding that there will be a shortage of Rs. 480 billion even if the Treasury receives the expected monthly income. (Bandula )
