All schools within the Kandy city limits will be closed for three days - August 28,29 and 31 in view of the Esala Perahera.
The Governor for the Central Province has announced the decision.
The move follows as large crowds have been gathering in Kandy for the Perahera.
The Randoli Peraheras are currently underway with the final Perahera due on August 30 followed by the Day Perahera on August 31.
Police yesterday made announcements for part of the crowds to withdraw without witnessing the Perahera as the crowds could not be accomodated on the pavements to witness the event.
Accordingly some of them turned away.
Meanwhile reports from Kandy said that by noon today some of the pavements were fully occupied.
Tickets to witness the Perahera were being sold by the Kandy Municipal Council and hotels at prices ranging upto to Rs 50,000.
