An inspection officer of the airport security division attempting to smuggle eighteen gold biscuits worth 48 million rupees was arrested by officials of the Customs Narcotics division this morning.
The official was identified as a 40-year-oldresident in Matara who has been in service for fifteen years.
Upon completing his night shift, the official had received the gold biscuits in a restroom of a transit passenger terminal, and had attempted to smuggle them by hiding them in the pockets of his pants.
An investigation conducted by the Customs revealed that the officer had agreed to smuggle the gold biscuits on a promised bribe of 60,000 rupees.
