All 251 policemen and Sri Lanka Army soldiers deployed to protect the Mihintale sacred area will be withdrawn today, State Minister of Defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon told Parliament.
This follows a complaint by the Chief incumbent who said two soldiers who were not officially assigned were found.
He expressed doubts that may be a conspiracy to assassinate him.
But the State Minister denied the claim and said they were deployed for intelligence duties and that was not unusual.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
