Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena sent on compulsory leave

News

Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena has been sent on compulsory  leave pending  disciplinary investigation over his failure to prevent the Easter Sunday bombings.

This move was in response to the Supreme Court's inquiry into the National Police Commission's failure to take appropriate legal action against the former Chief of the State Intelligence Service, as required by the court's ruling.

Earlier this week the Supreme Court had questioned about the failure of the National Police Commission to take action against the former Chief of the State Intelligence Service keeping with a court order.

According to the Police Commission, the disciplinary procedure against the SDIG began on July 1.

SDIG Jayawardena along with former President Maithripala Sirisena, former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando is accused of failing to prevent the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks, despite early intelligence information.
