The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) and the Tourism Development Authority and the Wildlife & Nature Protection Society jointly carried out a training programme for 700 safari vehicle drivers who operate within Yala National Park (YNP).
It focused on training and improving the tourism service skills of safari drivers operating within YNP.
The Department has decided to allow safari drivers registered under them and who took part in the training programme to enter YNP without a guide, from January 1, 2024. It is now mandatory for DWC-registered drivers who are not trained to obtain the services of DWC-provided guides.
It is also compulsory to obtain the services of a DWC-provided wildlife guide if a group of people enter YNP using other authorized vehicles which are not safari jeeps.
