Seven persons have been arrested while engaging in illegal fishing in Northern waters, Navy media said.
The men, aged 20 to 37, residents of Mannar and Kalpitiya were arrested off Point Pedro, Jaffna by naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command while diving to catch fish without valid fishing passes.
One dinghy has been seized along with diving and fishing gear. The men together with their fishing gear have been handed over to the Fisheries Inspector-Point Pedro East for further legal action.
