Seven organisations including those involved in Election monitoring have called the Treasury Secretary to release funding for the conduct of the Local Government elections and cautioned that it would be an offence not to release funds.
The seven groups in a letter to the Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena have quoted the relevant sections in the Constitution and Election laws on release of funding for elections.
They have pointed out that the Treasury so far has not positively responded to calls to release funding for the elections.
The letter has been signed by Mr Rohana Hettiaarachchi of PAFFREL, Dr Pakiyasothy Sarawanamuttu of CMEV, Mr Manjula Gajanayaka of IRES, Ms Nadhishani Perera of TISL, Mr Ahmed Manaz Makeen of CaFFE, Daya Herath of MDL and Rasanga Harishchandra of NPOC
