Seven persons who beat up a youth with Cricket stumps to death in Modara, 13 years back, were sentenced by the Colombo High Court today with five of them being sentenced to death and two others to a life imprisonment.
The sentence was passed by High Court judge Nawaratne Marasinghe
The convicts are now in the age groups of 27 to 29 years while two were below 18 years when they murdered Francis Suranjan over a personal dispute on September 26, 2012.
A total of nine persons were involved in the incident, but two of them died while the cases was continuing.
The allegations against the seven suspects were proved beyond doubt.
The suspected pleaded for lenient sentence while claiming they were not involved in the incident.
