Several roads across the country including some of the main roads have been blocked due to earth slips overnight and today morning, Police said.
The Matara - Ratnapura main road has been blocked at the 85th mile post due to an earth slip that occurred earlier today.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has advised motorists to use alternative routes while the clearing operations are underway.
The landslide at Pinnawala on the Hatton – Balangoda reported last night was being cleared.
The DMC also has warned that there was a possibility of landslide threats on the Lunugala – Bibile road.
On Thursday night the Hatton Colombo main road, was blocked at Ginigathhena.
Due to the traffic block the Ginigathhena police had taken action to divert all vehicles from Colombo to Hatton via Kalugala, Lakshapana, Nottonbridge and all vehicles from Kandy to Hatton via Nawalapitiya - Thalawakala road.
Due to the traffic congestion caused by the landslide, students, employees of government and private companies and passengers coming to schools in Hatton area suffered inconvenience today morning (08).
Though the Road Development Authority has started the work of cutting and removing the large tree and mud mound on the main road, the Ginigathhena Police has requested the motorists to divert their vehicles on alternative roads as it will take a few more hours to repair it.
