Shots fired at SLPP MP’s vehicle in A’pura
An unidentified gunman opened fire at the vehicle of SLPP MP Uddika Premaratne soon after he had returned to his residence in Anuradhapura on Sunday night.
The MP had escaped unhurt.
Earlier this month the MP decided to become an independent member in parliament.
"I entered parliament in 2020 for a system change. I don't see that happening anytime soon. We must end the era of family politics in this country. Young people like us, from normal families, must provide leadership to this country," the MP told Parliament while announcing his decision to become independent.
MP Premaratne, a popular actor entered Parliament from the SLPP for the first time in 2020.
