The Department of Meteorology says that mainly fair weather will persist around the island aside from Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces along with Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (28) where a few showers are very likely expected.
Western slopes of the central hills, Northern, and North-central provinces and Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts are expected to witness moderately high winds of 40 KMPH.
In the meantime, the Met dept. further mentioned that showers or thundershowers will pass off in the off shore areas extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
It has been forecasted that south-westerly winds of about 30-40 KMPH may advance into 50-60 KMPH at times in the marine areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai.
Although the rest of the sea areas around the island will remain moderate, the sea areas off the coast widening from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai will be rough periodically.
In addition, strong gusts of wind and stormy seas are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
