Showers expected in a few areas today

The Department of Meteorology says that showers will come to pass in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northern provinces and in Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts.

Showers are also expected in North-central province and in Kurunegala district.

The Met. Department further mentioned that showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.  

High winds of about 40-45 KMPH are to look for in Western slopes of Central hills, Northern and North-central provinces plus, in Puttalam, Hambanthota and Trincomalee districts.

In the meantime, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanturai to Matara via Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle. The Met. Department added that showers will occur at several places in the rest of the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be South-westerly and would strike at 25-35 KMPH transiently in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil. The Met Department forewarns that the wind speed may shoot up to 45-50 KMPH periodically in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Kankesanturai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.

Heavy swells may occur at times in the maritime space off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil whilst sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Kankesanturai, Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle will remain moderately rough.

Besides, temporary heavy winds and stormy seas would prevail during thundershowers intermittently.
