The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested six people for illegally harvesting sea cucumber in the North Western coast.
The arrest were made on Christmas Day, December 25, in the North West.
They were arrested along with 1,205 illegally harvested sea cucumbers and two dinghies without valid fishing licenses.
The suspects, aged between 24 and 52, were identified as residents of Kalpitiya, Mandalakuda, Kalpanthinegama, Anawasala, Sinnakudirippu, and Haijarawaththa areas.
Two trawlers used for this illegal harvesting were also handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for further legal action.
The suspects were apprehended by the during regular search operations and patrols conducted in the coastal and sea areas around the island to prevent illegal fishing practices.
