Six individuals who attacked and injured police officers in Mt. Lavinia were arrested for obstructing their duties.
Officers of the Mount Lavinia Coast Guard Unit received a complaint yesterday evening regarding a group of drunk individuals that were swimming in an unsafe area of the ocean.
Upon investigating the scene, the six individuals were warned to withdraw from the area. However, the drunk group charged at the coast guards with foul language, and physically assaulted them.
Two officers that were beaten were admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, and one officer has now been discharged.
The group of were individuals aged sixteen to thirty have been identified as residents of Ratmalana, Pilliyandala and Ahungalla.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Mount Lavinia Police.
