Six people including activist Sanjeewa Dhammika and Balangoda Kashyapa thero were arrested in Divulapitiya today during a protest against the electricity tariff hike organized by the Electricity Consumers Association.
The protest commenced at Divulapitiya at 8 a.m. with the Ministry of Power and Energy being its final destination at 10 p.m. the protest was stopped abruptly by the police.
President of the Electricity Consumers Association M. D. R. Athula told Times Online that about 100m into the protest march, Police Officials had blocked about 50 individuals that participated in he protest.
Meanwhile Court issued an order barring four people including Sanjeewa Dammilka and Balangoda Kashyapa thero from protesting on several roads including Peliyagoda Manning Market road.
