At least six persons were injured and three houses and a shop were completely destroyed and 20 more houses were partially damaged in landslide in the Punagala estate of the Liyangahawela Police area in Bandarawela last night.
The landslide occurred following heavy rains in the Kabaragala section of the estate managed by the Maskeliya Plantation company.
The displaced persons have been accommodated in a school in the area.
The persons injured were admitted to the Koslanda hospital. They were out of danger.
Minister Jeevan Thondaman has directed all concerned parties to make all necessary arrangements for the displaced people affected by the landslide in Punagala.
Also, the minister today urged the officials of the National Building Research Institute to investigate the landslide incident and submit a detailed report to him.
Minister Thondaman said he will take up the issue at the cabinet meeting today.
