Six women from Navanthurai, Jaffna were arrested by Jaffna police yesterday over the death of a youth last week, police said.
The 20-year-old victim who is a pigeon fancier was attacked mercilessly by the women following a clash between two groups of pigeon fanciers two weeks ago. The assault was also video recorded and shared on social media by the attackers to shame him.
According to preliminary investigations by police, the youth committed suicide due to the public shame he experienced when the footage was shared on social media platforms.
The Jaffna police granted police bail today to all six suspects considering the current COVID-19 situation. Police are scheduled to report facts on the investigations to Courts on August 2.
