Sixteen persons who had attended a wedding in Gurunagar, Jaffna, in violation of quarantine laws have been arrested and quarantined at the venue where the wedding was being held, the Jaffna Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office stated.
The Nelliadi Police had initially received a tip-off that a wedding was being held at the venue in violation of quarantine laws and visited the location along with officials from the Jaffna MOH office.
Since the wedding was being held in total disregard to health guidelines, police arrested 16 persons at the scene and took steps to quarantine them at the venue where the wedding was taking place.
Among those quarantined are the bride and groom as well as two priests who were officiating at the ceremony.
Initial investigations have revealed that over 50 persons had taken part in the wedding, police stated. Steps are being taken to trace a further 53 persons who were in attendance at the event, they added.
