News

Sixty four persons were arrested today in Trincomalee while attempting to flee the country via sea, the Navy said.

“The Fast Attack Craft P484 of the Fast Attack Flotilla attached to the Eastern Naval Command intercepted a suspicious local fishing trawler during a patrol off Trincomalee,” Navy media said.

Fifty males, 11 females and three children were among the apprehended individuals. All are residents of Trincomalee, Jaffna and Mullaitivu. They were handed over to Trincomalee Harbour Police for further legal action.

Earlier this week, 38 persons were arrested in the Eastern seas while attempting to leave the country illegally. Similarly, 91 persons were also caught while fleeing illegally via seas off Marawila earlier this month.
