Johnny and Roma, two sniffer dogs from the Police K-9 division in Kandy have been trained to detect mosquito breeding sites, police said.
Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said the dogs’ expertise will be used in raids conducted by Environment Police Division to detect mosquito breeding sites.
According to the Health Ministry’s Dengue Control Unit 16,497 dengue cases have been reported this year with the highest in July (3,029). Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Kandy, Matara, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Galle and Hambantota districts have been identified as high risk districts.
