The Supreme Court (SC) has determined that several clauses in the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Amendment Bill are inconsistent with the Constitution and would require a two-thirds parliamentary majority, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena informed the House today.
Reading the SC's determination in Parliament, the Speaker noted that while the Court had determined that some clauses are not inconsistent with the Constitution, others cannot be passed in their current form without a two-thirds majority.
However, the inconsistencies of these clauses would cease if the relevant clauses are amended in line with the determination given by the Court, he added.
