Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena assured conduct a probe into the incident of government MPs trying to disrupt the speech of the Opposition Leader today and announced that Parliamentary sessions cannot be recorded by mobile phones inside the House and shared on social media platforms.
The move came after Opposition MPs recorded the situation as it unfolded in the House and shared it on their respective social media channels.
Earlier, Parliamentary sessions were disrupted and adjourned for five minutes after ruling government MPs protested when Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa was presenting a Resolution over the recent Supreme Court judgement that held Rajapaksa family members including former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other former senior government officials responsible for causing worst economic crisis in the country.
During the Q&A sessions in the House, the Opposition Leader raised the stand of the government on the Supreme Court judgement. Government MPs including Puttalam district MP Sananth Nishanatha crossed the floor and tried to grab the document from the Opposition leader causing a tense situation in the House.
