A special operation has been launched this morning (12) covering all prisons in the country to inspect the documents in record rooms at prison premises, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Timesonline.
The operation was launched at 8.00am today, with authorities inspecting the documents at record rooms in the prisons, primarily to check whether documentation relating to prison inmates who are supposed to be in the prison population have been altered in any way, Minister Wijepala explained. He added that officials at the prison premises had not been informed beforehand that such an operation was being launched.
The operation has been launched in the wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding the allegedly illegal release of prisoners under the guise of them being granted presidential pardons.
