Mr. Utpala Kumarasinghe, the most senior pilot of SriLankan Airlines who completed over 40 years of service, took his last flight to Katunayake Airport and bid farewell to his service on Friday.
His son Mr. Rahal Kumarasinghe was the co-pilot for his last flight
UL-138 as their last flight from Madurai, India on Frdiay.
Sri Lankan Airlines as well as Katunayake airport authorities had taken steps to welcome this aircraft by conducting a "water salute" on the airport runway.
Mr Kumarasinghe, who joined the service as an Assistant Operations Officer in 1979, retired as the most senior pilot of Sri Lankan Airlines after 44 years of service.
