SriLankan Airlines on Sunday advertised for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a post currently held by airline industry veteran Richard Nuttall.
The advertisement appeared in the February 9, 2025 issue of the Sunday Times. Officials at the airline were unavailable for comment as to whether Nuttal’s tenure will be discontinued or whether he would serve another position in the airline.
Nuttal was appointed CEO from January 1, 2022, after serving as the airline’s chief commercial officer since November 2021.
Sarath Ganegoda, Group Executive Director of Sri Lankan multinational Hayleys PLC and Deputy Chairman of Alumex PLC, was appointed chairman of the airline in October 2024, after the advent of the new National People’s Power administration. He took over from Ashok Pathirage, who was appointed during President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration.
Why look for others when we have Mr.Peter Hill who was the SL Airlines Head when it was managed by Emirates Airlines during the regime of Mahinda. Due to high demands of the latter, Emirates had to leave, ( tenure of Mr. Hill was ended) which started the downfall of SL Airlines with politics and inexperienced Ministers appointed by MR, we saw how our own Airline deteriorated to the present status. Mr. Peter is presently residing in Sri Lanka. He was appointed as CEO of Oman Air and under his charge, this Airline prospered and now it is one of the leading airlines in the Gulf and flies to many destinations around the globe. With the appointment of Mr. Hill who still maintains cordial relations with senior staff of SriLankan, he would be the best choice to head our own Airline and I am sure his years of experiences will see an immense grown of SriLankan in the years to come.
