A SriLankan Airlines flight that was bound for Japan's Narita International Airport had to turn back and return to Katunayake about 2 hours and 25 minutes into its flight this morning due to a technical fault, the Duty Officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) stated.
The aircraft that had to return is an Airbus A330-300 which is the largest aircraft in the SriLankan fleet.
The flight UL-455 had taken off from the BIA at 8.20pm last night enroute to Japan's Narita International Airport.
However, as the flight's computer system was not indicating that the aircraft's landing gear had properly folded into the aircraft, the pilot made the decision to turn the flight around after 2 hours and 25 minutes and return to the BIA.
A total of 301 passengers and crew were aboard the flight. Arrangements were made to fly the passengers to Narita on another flight, the Duty Officer said.
