Traditional Coconut oil producers called the Sri Lankan Government to stop importation of coconut products.
They called locals to use locally produced ekel brooms, coconut oil fiber roes and coconut charcoal produced locally.
A press conference held at Colombo they expressed their opposition against the government for allowing importers to bring coconut products.
Convener Traditional Coconut businessmen Association, Buddika de Silva said that people are consuming low quality imported coconut oil while the better quality coconut are sent overseas.
He added that the importers have even destroyed the good name of traditional coconut oil by importing and re exporting adulterated coconut oil.
“We had a good sale of ekel brooms locally that is too destroyed by importing plastic brooms; we can have a good local market and a foreign market and gain foreign remittance, but the government has to extend support,” he said.
