A man has been arrested while transporting heroin in Fort, Police said today (March 18).
The Fort Police were engaging in roadblock duties last night when they inspected a small lorry driving from Kollupitiya to Colombo and Police discovered a pile of money in a cloth-bag.
The Police had questioned the driver where he had replied to be a fish trader. However, upon further questioning the suspect had contacted a person through a call, who had told him to bribe the Police for Rs. 500,000.
The lorry and the driver were arrested and taken to the Police Station where the pile of money was counted as to amount to Rs. 6,949,500.
A Police dog had also discovered 3g 340 mg of heroin under the driver seat.
The suspect is aged 29 years and a resident of Kalutara, but is temporarily living in Logawatta, Ahungalla. The suspect would be produced to the Fort Magistrate today.
