A suspect who allegedly attempted to assaulted a police officer inside the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court has been remanded after being arrested and produced in court.
The incident had occurred yesterday (2) inside the Magistrate's Court premises when the Magistrate had ordered police to ensure that there was silence in court. The officer had asked the suspect who was inside the court premises to remain quiet or leave court if his court case had concluded.
However, the suspect had grown aggressive and proceeded to hurl abuse at the police officer and had also assaulted him.
The suspect was then arrested by other officers who were at the court premises on charges of crimina intimdation and handed over to the Nuwara Eliya police.
The 43-year-old suspect is a resident of Nanuoya. He was produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate yesterday and was remanded in custody till November 9.
