Police has opened an investigation into an incident where a student assaulted a teacher after he was questioned about the possession of mobile phone during school time.
The incident occurred as the students of Mahanama National School in Monaragala were preparing to mark the International day for children.
As the students were preparing to leave to assembly hall for the celebrations, the teacher had noticed that the student was carrying a powerbank used to recharge the mobile phone.
The teacher had questioned the student whether he was in possession of a mobile phone.
The student had alleged turned abusive to the teacher.
The teacher had try to take the student to the sectional head when the student assaulted the teacher and fled from the school.
The teacher had informed the principal and got himself admitted to the Monaragala police.
Police is due to record a statement from the teacher and student as part of the investigations.
