A 22-year-old male was killed following an explosion that occurred while repairing an air conditioning unit of a leading hotel in Kandy today.
The victim, an air-condition unit technician, suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and was admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The explosion had occurred when the victim had been repairing an air condition unit at the hotel's restaurant located on the third floor. The explosion caused extensive damage to the hotel's restaurant as well.
The deceased technician has been identified as a resident of Warakamura, Matale. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
