The Government today dismissed reports that currency notes upto Rs 100 billion has been printed after President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took over office.
Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Vijitha Herath told the post cabinet news conference today that social media reports about printing of currency notes was incorrect.
“If currency notes have been printed we should see the new Finance Minister President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s signature on the notes,” he said.
He said under existing regulations, money cannot be printed at the will of the Government.
