Three FR cases on issue of liquor licenses

The Supreme Court today took up three fundamental rights applications with regard to the issuance of liquor licenses.

The Petitioners had complained of alleged irregularities in the process of issuing such licenses.  A bench comprising Justices Yasantha Kodagoda, PC, Janak de Silva and Arjuna Obeyesekere heard several Presidents counsel who appeared for the for Petitioners.

Deputy Solicitor General Kanishka de Silva Balapatabendi appearing for the State making extensive submissions stated that that all licenses have been in accordance with the applicable law and Regulations.

The Court after hearing the submissions of the Deputy Solicitor General while not granting to leave proceed fixed the matter for further support for 10th May 2024 and made an order that all licenses should continue to be granted in terms of the applicable law and regulations as submitted by the Deputy Solicitor General.
