The intercity – express train “ Pulathisi” operating from Batticaloa to Colombo has been derailed after it collided with three elephants which were crossing the road.
The incident had occurred around 5.05 am in between Gal Oya and Hathares Kotuwa Stations. The three elephants which were knocked down have been killed as a result of the accident.
As a result of the accident the engine and another compartment have been de railed.
