A three-member committee has been appointed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways R.W. Pemasiri to investigate the bus accident in Passara that killed 14 passengers.
The committee consists of two additional secretaries from the Ministry of Highways and the Chairman of the Road Development Authority.
The driver of the bus that plunged into the precipice and driver of the tipper lorry who obstructed the road and fled the scene afterwards were remanded till March 25 after being produced before Badulla acting Magistrate Sujeevana Silva. The bus driver also sustained injuries from the accident.
About 30 injured persons are presently receiving treatment at the Badulla General Hospital with the condition of five of them being critical, hospital sources said.
