Saman Ekanayake further remanded till February 18
Former President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has been further remanded until February 18, by the Fort Magistrate's Court for approving the funds for a foreign visit by then President Ranil Wickremesinghe in 2023. The order on his bail application will be given on February 18.
Twelve persons sentenced to death for MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala murder
Twelve persons were sentenced to death today by the Gampaha High Courts over the murder of former Polonnaruwa District Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer on May 9, 2022, at Nittambuwa. Four others were sentenced, while 23 others were acquitted.
Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero and nine others received bail
The Trincomalee High Court has granted bail for four Buddhist monks, including Ven. Balangoda Kassapa Thero, and six other individuals. Four arrested for separate alleged crimes
Four suspects have been arrested for alleged involvement in serious crimes, including the attempted shooting of a prison inmate at the Nagoda Hospital in December 2025, the murder of a hotel owner in Dehiwala and the attempted assassination of a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Bandula Prasanna, who contested for the Kalutara Municipal Council at the last local government election.
