The Spokesman for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Noel Priyantha said that the island-wide power failure occurred due to transmission system failure between Biyagama and Kotmale transmission line.
The Spokesman said they believed that the power transmission line might have tripped due to a lightning strike.
He explained that they are planning to restore power within two and a half hours.
