One woman was killed when a tree fell onto a group of three women who were applying fertiliser to tea plants at an estate in Opatha, Kahawatta last afternoon.
Police said the deceased, a 49-year-old resident of Opathawatta, Kahawatta, died on admission to the Kahawatta Hospital.
Investigations have revealed that an albizia tree at the estate had been uprooted during high winds accompanied by torrential rains, and that the tree had fallen onto the women workers.
